What is a Host ID?

A Host ID is the unique network ID number or system ID of the target computer that will run the VERICUT license server process.

I have a Windows environment, how do I find my Host ID?

Windows must have the following components installed:
- Network Card - in the license server computer
- TCP/IP - bound to network card

Valid Windows Host IDs are 12 characters and contain only 0-9 numbers and A-F alpha characters
A utility program called hostinfo.bat is provided on the VERICUT CD. This program displays the Host ID.

If you do not have access to the VERICUT CD, you can do the following:

Windows 7/Vista/XP
From a Command Prompt window type:ipconfig/all
Report 12 character Physical Address value found under the Ethernet Card section.
e.g.: "00-AA-00-A8-D8-98"

Should you have any problems retrieving the proper Host ID information, please contact Technical Support

I have a UNIX environment, how do I obtain my Host ID?

Valid UNIX Host IDs are eight characters for VERICUT 5.2 and later, and
12 characters for versions 5.1 and earlier.

A utility program called hostid.ux is provided on the VERICUT CD. This program displays the Host ID. Execute it in a UNIX shell window.

If you do not have access to the VERICUT CD, you can do the following:

At command line prompt:

HP/HP-UX
type: /usr/bin/uname -i

Convert the 12 digit decimal number to an eight digit hexadecimal number. For example, the command returns the decimal number 2004882943, which converts to the hex number 778015FF.

RS6000/AIX
type: /usr/sbin/hostid

Report the 8 character ID displayed.

Sun/Solaris
type: /usr/ucb/hostid

Report the eight character Host ID shown, e.g.: "52000e12"

Should you have any problems retrieving the proper Host ID information, please contact technical support.
